One NBA insider believes the Philadelphia 76ers do not have what LeBron James is seeking.
Despite the Philadelphia 76ers constantly finding themselves linked to free agent LeBron James in recent days, some are not optimistic about the rumors turning into a reality.
James, who is not returning to the Los Angeles Lakers, could decide to team up with Philadelphia's 'Big Four' of Tyrese Maxey, V.J. Edgecombe, Jaylen Brown, and Joel Embiid. However, NBA insider Tim MacMahon believes the 22-time All-Star is seeking an NBA team with a bigger role to be carved out for him.
"Sure, he'd fit as a third or fourth option, but LeBron is seeking basketball happiness. I don't think that is basketball happiness for LeBron James," MacMahon said on Get Up. "I think he wants to go somewhere where he's going to touch the ball on more than an occasional basis."
Of James' rumored landing spots, the Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Denver Nuggets offer the biggest available role. He would instantly slot in as the No. 2 option on those teams.
The reality is James choosing the 76ers or not comes down to how badly he desires a fifth championship. This is because, if James chooses Philadelphia, no team in the league would have a starting five even comparable to the Sixers.
It's also worth noting that James is capable of contributing in many ways other than scoring. He is a phenomenal playmaker, a strong rebounder, and remains a solid defender. The four-time NBA champion averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds on 51.5% shooting in 60 games for the Lakers last season.
If winning a title is James' No. 1 priority when choosing his next and likely final team, the 76ers cannot be ruled out despite the doubt cast by MacMahon.
