The Philadelphia 76ers have placed fourth on their list, with the three teams besting them being the San Antonio Spurs, the New York Knicks, and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The positive that gets pointed out is the new roster. When you add LeBron James and Jaylen Brown, it’s sure to put you high up in the ranks. You add in the fact that Tyrese Maxey could be gearing up for another All-Star season, one that could lead to a supermax deal, and VJ Edgecombe may take that leap in his second year; they could truly be ready to go on a championship run.
The downside is this could all be a fever dream. The optimism surrounding this team makes you ponder if this could go off the rails really quickly. The age of some of their stars, specifically, James, could be what starts the derailment. You follow that up with a Joel Embiid injury, and that would just be the icing on the cake. But this all could just be a bunch of pessimism, and this team performs at its highest ability, and now everyone is all smiles.
Can’t leave out how the bench has given the team another boost. While it is all about the starting unit, those backups will give you an idea of what would happen when the stars need a breather.
For preseason, everyone is going to want to see these guys perform, and they may get their wish. It’s true that they have been getting workouts in together, but nothing beats real basketball minutes. This could be the first time we see all the starters in action, and it may only be for a couple minutes, but it may be worth it. The team needs to know what they have, and this would be the time to show it.
