No Philadelphia 76ers star was seen on this list and it shows how many think the team will function.
There’s something special about a player who can score at will. There's only a handful of players who can do it, and it makes you watch in awe.
This new list from Bleacher Report details who they believe will be top ten in scoring. Some names you expect to see: Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeious-Alexander, and Nikola Jokic, to name a few. But there's something missing from this list: not a single Philadelphia 76ers star in sight.
Sometimes you let things like this slide, but you mean to say, not a single player on this 76er team could average 25 or more points? Three of those four starters averaged that last season. So just because a few of them are supposedly ball-dominant, they still can’t average over 20 a game?
Just to be clear, the leading scorer last season averaged 33 points per game; that was Doncic. The lowest points scored was 26. Jaylen Brown and Tyrese Maxey were both in the top ten. Now they share the court, and it’s going to be expected for them to lose traction as scorers. Well, that may be possible, but there’s one player many are forgetting about, Joel Embiid.
That’s right, the lone center that everyone wants to abuse over the injury bug. This is a guy that can give you at least 25 a night and not break a sweat. Everyone’s been talking about how he slimmed down in preparation for the season. He has also won the scoring title twice in his career. So what’s stopping him from doing it again?
Let’s revisit Brown and Maxey. Maxey can absolutely go and score nearly 30 again with this roster. Don’t forget, Maxey scored with all the attention on him. Embiid was hurt, and Paul George missed nearly half the season. Things are going to look very different when he doesn’t have to have the ball in his hands to score. There’s a difference between scoring with pressure and scoring with ease.
As for Brown, well, he’s probably the one name that could be a fair argument. He’s played alongside other stars and managed 20, so it’s fair to say that could be where he ends up again.
This team is going to be near the top when it comes to points scored as a team. So with that logic, it’s going to be hard to say that no one from this team will average under 25 a game.
The season will start soon, and it’ll be interesting to see how the scoring shakes out for the 76ers.
