Can the Milwaukee Bucks land Peyton Watson?
The Milwaukee Bucks already made the biggest move of the offseason in trading Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat.
In return, Milwaukee received Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel'el Ware, Kasparas Jakučionis, multiple first-round picks (2026, 2031, and 2033), a 2030 pick swap, and a second-round pick.
They used the 2026 first-round pick, which was 13th overall, to draft forward Nate Ament out of Tennessee.
In trading Giannis, the Bucks are moving forward with a new era and rebuilding with young players like Ament, 10th overall pick Brayden Burries, Ryan Rollins, Ware, and Jakucionis.
Even Jaquez Jr is only 25 and Herro is only 26.
Adding Another Young Piece?
According to Jake Fischer of the Stein Line Newsletter, the Bucks are reportedly looking to "pry away" Peyton Watson from the Denver Nuggets in a potential sign-and-trade.
Watson is a restricted free agent who is coming off a breakout year that saw him average 14.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.1 assists while shooting 49% from the field and 41% from three.
Watson truly showcased his offensive ability in the month when Nikola Jokic was injured, averaging 22.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game on 48% shooting from the field and 44% from three.
He'll turn 24 in September, putting him on the same timeline as many of the young players on the current roster.
What Could It Take?
The Bucks don't have the cap space to outright sign him to the deal he's looking for, which is reportedly in the $25 to $30 million range.
The Nuggets might not have much interest in Myles Turner, considering his contract and already having Jokic and Marvin Bagley on the roster. Kyle Kuzma could be an option, as he's on an expiring deal and would improve their frontcourt depth.
The more intriguing option is Tyler Herro, who could provide Denver with a real scoring punch at the shooting guard position that they haven't had.
If Denver isn't interested in Herro or Kuzma, the Bucks won't have many options to get a deal done since the money is unlikely to line up.
The Bucks have plenty of reasons to want to acquire Watson, and he could have more upside as a lead player than Herro, though he has to prove he can continue to be a strong two-way player on a more consistent basis than just one season or one month.
