Could Tyler Herro Be a Trade Candidate for Bucks This Season?

This offseason, the Milwaukee Bucks traded former Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat, leaving them without a true franchise star. One player the Bucks got back in that deal was guard Tyler Herro, who is projected to be the best player on their roster next season. 

In Miami, Herro showcased that he can be an elite scorer, as he's averaged at least 20 points per game every season since 2021-2022. Now with the Bucks, he could be in for a career year as the team is rebuilding and finding its direction as an organization. 

Bleacher Report recently published an article saying Tyler Herro could be a potential trade candidate for the Bucks next season. Though Herro is projected to have a lot of opportunities that could set him up for a career year, Milwaukee's front office could be inclined to trade the former All-Star elsewhere at some point next season. 

While the idea may sound confusing, there are certain limitations the Bucks currently have in terms of long-term plans. Milwaukee does not own its first-round pick in the 2027 NBA Draft, and they're at a point where they're trying to get younger and develop more talent. 

Herro is a proven player in the NBA and has a lot of value, and with him being on an expiring contract, the Bucks may feel like it's not worth signing him to a long-term deal. Instead, they could choose to get some assets out of him. 

This potential move does not have much to do with Tyler Herro, but more to do with where the Bucks are as a team. The organization will not be able to compete for a championship for years to come, and they may think about moving off multiple pieces on the roster, not just Herro. 

There are multiple competitive teams that could look into acquiring Tyler Herro as early as next season. A team like the Golden State Warriors could be in play for him. Herro has familiarity with the Warriors' small forward, Jimmy Butler, and that's a team that is in need of a shooting guard who can produce alongside Steph Curry. 

Overall, the Bucks have a lot of options for how they can handle their early rebuilding phase, and they have multiple pieces to put on the market for assets. This is a team that can be competitive in 2026-2027 as well if they play their cards right. Milwaukee has a lot of uncertainty going into their season opener, and this season many of those questions will be answered.
