Chris Cenac Jr. scored his first bucket in a win over the Chicago Bulls.
The Boston Celtics rolled over the Chicago Bulls 134-99 on Monday night to move to 2-1 on the young season.
Payton Pritchard was the star of the show, scoring 28 points in total, but Jayson Tatum also played well, registering 23.
Pritchard and Tatum playing well is nothing new for the C's, but what was new was rookie big man Chris Cenac Jr. scoring. The first-round pick out of Houston scored his first NBA points, hitting a three-pointer in five minutes of action.
It's unclear if he'll stay on the active roster all season or if he'll split time with the G-League's Maine Celtics, but either way, this was a memorable first bucket for him.
And after the game, he had a memorable moment as well, getting the game ball from veteran Paul George. Head coach Joe Mazzulla tried to impart how cool that moment is for Cenac too, considering George's status in the league and his accomplishments.
Cenac was taken at pick No. 27 in the NBA Draft and made an impact during Summer League on the glass and in the shot blocking department. He's also making strides in his outside shooting ability.
As someone who played for legendary head coach Kelvin Sampson in college, he certainly has a knowledge and understanding of what it takes to be a pro, and with his athleticism, he looks like someone who can help the Celtics in relatively short order.
Also in the news
The Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum story continues to snowball, with former Celtics big man Brian Scalabrine saying that Brown actually asked for a trade out of Boston this summer, and then backtracking later on Monday. Regardless of what did or did not actually happen, this story isn't going away.
The Celtics will play Brown's new team, the Philadelphia 76ers, on Nov. 10 for the first time this season. They'll meet later in January in Boston for the first time. And that game is sure to draw the eyes of NBA fans everywhere.
Up next for the Celtics
The Celtics will be back in action on Tuesday night against the Brooklyn Nets for the second night of a back-to-back. The Nets profile to be one of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference, so Boston will look to take advantage of a positive matchup.
Of course, the Celtics could alter their rotation and minutes based on playing the second consecutive night.
