Brian Scalabrine of NBC Sports Boston has a new take on the latest drama.
The latest drama surrounding the Boston Celtics has re-stirred the pot on the Jaylen Brown-Jayson Tatum conversation.
In case you haven't been following along:
1) Brown was traded from the Celtics to the Philadelphia 76ers in July, ending his 10-year run with the franchise. It was an incredible 10-year run that saw him help the Celtics get to two NBA Finals and win one. Brown was named MVP of the NBA Finals in 2024 and then finished sixth in the MVP voting for the regular season in 2026.
2) After the trade, Tatum talked glowingly about Brown all summer.
3) Tatum put out a recent interview and continued to talk about Brown, saying all positive things. He also added that he didn't know Brown was getting traded and that he was surprised to see him go to Philly.
4) Brown took exception with that, calling Tatum a liar, though he didn't say exactly what he was lying about.
5) Both players responded to the incident, with Tatum continuing to take the high road, and Brown continuing to show his resentment.
So what's new?
Well, former Celtics big man Brian Scalabrine, who hosts shows at Sirius XM and serves as the Celtics' color commentator on NBC Sports Boston, now says that Brown actually requested the trade over the summer.
Scalabrine says that Brown didn't publicly request it, but he went to the organization with a list of demands. And if those demands weren't met, he wanted to be traded.

It's probably a little too early to say right now, honestly.
On one hand, Scalabrine has a proximity to the Celtics that cannot be matched. He has access and relationships that few others do. If something happens behind closed doors, he has the ability to find out about it.
On the other hand, because he works around the team so much, you have to wonder if he's being used as a team-friendly mouthpiece by somebody. It doesn't mean that he is, but it's fair to at least wonder. He loves the Celtics, but is someone feeding him this information knowing that?
Up next for the Celtics
The Tatum and Brown drama will continue to simmer until the two play each other for the first time on Nov. 10.
The Celtics and Chicago Bulls will play on Monday night with tip-off coming at 7:30 p.m. ET. Boston is 1-1.
