Max Strus is the newest member of the Los Angeles Clippers after coming over in a massive five-team sign-and-trade deal where the centerpiece was the Denver Nuggets sending Peyton Watson to the Cleveland Cavaliers, but in the process the Clippers got their hands on Strus.

Before making his way to Los Angeles, Strus played for three other teams in his NBA career, the Cavaliers, Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls.

Strus' most notable teammate from his past has to be six-time All-Star and current Golden State Warrior Jimmy Butler, but as Strus recently revealed on the Pardon My Take podcast, his experience playing with Butler wasn't exactly positive.

"He's [Butler] also like an a*****e towards you. One day you'll look at him and he won't even acknowledge you. You could go to dinner with him the night before and you're his best friend and the next morning you go to practice and he won't even look at you or say hi to you... I just got to a point where I didn't give a f**k anymore."

Such an up-and-down emotional experience from a player of Butler's caliber, especially someone who was looked at as the leader of the Miami Heat during those seasons and while the Heat enjoyed some success during Butler's years with the team, they weren't able to make it all the way and a lack of chemistry could be attributed to those shortcomings.

Butler has reputation for being a difficult teammate, especially for young players, with his antics going beyond the kind of hot-and-cold treatment that Strus was describing.

Famously, Butler's relationship with former-Timberwolves teammates Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins was called into question after an incident in 2018 where Butler reportedly called Wiggins and Towns "soft" after Butler led a team of bench players to beat the Minnesota starters during a scrimmage. 

That incident made headlines at the same time, with some calling into question if Butler's treatment of his young teammates was old-school tough love or an incident of bullying that hurt the team, rather than help it. 

In the years since, Wiggins and Towns have both become NBA champions, though neither did it with the Timberwolves, while Butler is still looking for his first ring. 

That kind of treatment wasn't what Strus experienced, and he added later in the interview that he eventually made peace with the fact that Butler's antics were "Jimmy being Jimmy," but it does still say a lot of about how Butler carried himself as the veteran of a team and how that might have affected the teams around him.
