The Sacramento Kings are after an unprecedented fifth-straight victory after toppling the Washington Wizards on Friday. They're taking clear advantage of this home stand.
Does this easily make the Kings the favorite despite facing a Portland Trail Blazers team with nearly 10 more victories than Sacramento?
The Kings will air on NBC Sports California once again in the 916, Delta and Fresno County region while also stretching towards the Bay. NBA League Pass provides additional view options along with Sling TV.
Domantas Sabonis is likely to play a big role here. Especially following his return. Here now is Fernie Ruano with the betting preview:
Someone somewhere in Carolinda Rancho is playing with a Mike Bibby bobblehead right now.
The ‘rebuilding’ Kings (12-30, 14th in the Western Conference), winners of four straight home games after a road loss in Golden State last week, and playing for the fifth consecutive time at home on Sunday night when hosting the Portland Trail Blazers (21-22, 11th in the Western Conference) for a 9:00 p.m. (ET) tipoff in Sacramento, CA, will be aiming for their fifth consecutive victory overall — after enduring a seven-game losing streak.
And oddsmakers at most US Sportsbooks think the third time could be the charm for the home favorite Kings when hosting Portland at Golden 1 Center on Sunday night.
The Kings (-3, -115) are -164 on the moneyline.
Portland (+3, -123) is +113 to pull off the mild upset.
The over/under is 228.5 (o, -119, u -120), as per BetMGM Sportsbook.
For all of Sacramento’s recent success, the Kings, just three games ahead of the last-place New Orleans Pelicans in the Western Conference, and the Trail Blazers, 7-2 in January and creeping up on the Warriors for the eighth seed in the same conference, are two teams headed in opposite directions.
Portland, 25-18 against the spread this season and 9-12 straight up in road games, is coming off a 132-116 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers as Donovan Clingan (18 points and 11 rebounds) and Kevin Love (22 points) led the way offensively.
The Trail Blazers, on a two-game winning streak, are 2-3 in their last five games.
But, keep in mind:
The Trail Blazers, not only playing on consecutive nights in this spot, but for the third night in four days, are 2-0 vs. the Kings this season.
In a three-day span in mid-December, Portland defeated the Kings 134-133 in OT at home,
before repeating the feat two nights later in Sacramento to the tune of 98-93.
In the first game between both teams, F Deni Advija, out tonight with a back injury, scored a team-high 35 points, including the game-winning free throws with 1.5 seconds remaining in OT.
Shaedon Sharpe added 26 points for the Blazers.
Sacramento’s DeMar DeRozan had 33 points, which included hitting a jumper with four seconds left that gave the Kings a 133-132 advantage.
The Kings, covering a 7.5 point betting line and -270 moneyline two nights ago, in addition to cashing the 232.5 over total for NBA bettors, with a 128-115 win over the Washington Wizards, are 4-6 in their last 10 games and 5-5 against the spread.
Most importantly, however, was the return of star center Domantas Sabonis, who scored 13 points and added six rebounds and five assists in over 21 minutes of playing time off the bench.
Sabonis, who missed 27 games with a meniscus tear in his left knee, was also efficient with a 5-of-6 shooting performance from the floor, in addition to a steal and block.
Sacramento, getting a team-high 19.9 points per game from Zach LaVine, is 9-12-1 against the spread at home, is 9-13 at the Golden 1 Center
Sacramento, still without F Keegan Murray (ankle),is 8-0-1 against the spread and 6-3-1 overall when scoring more than 123.9 points.
Trail Blazers vs. Kings betting analysis:
The Kings are ‘rolling’ at home, while the Blazers are on the backend of a back-to-back spot.
Be careful, kids.
