With a 1-1 record through their first two preseason games, the Orlando Magic need to be better collectively and individually.

The Orlando Magic have split their first two preseason games after a 119-105 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers at Rocket Arena in Cleveland on Sunday. They will now return home for their final two preseason games, the first of which is a rematch against Cleveland on Tuesday.

So far, the Magic have demonstrated signs of production while simultaneously displaying areas where they must improve. There are many ways the team can get better collectively, but let's identify who needs to get better individually and who needs to build off a strong start:

Paolo Banchero

This is in no way meant to sound any alarms or overreact. It is preseason after all, but Banchero needs to be better.

Banchero has been ice cold as a shooter. Against the Cavs on Sunday, he shot just 1-for-10 from the field, and over Orlando’s first two preseason games, he is 3-for-17 from the field and 1-for-5 from the perimeter.

From a big-picture standpoint, Banchero still has plenty of time to shake off the game-action rust that has plagued him as a scorer. It is fair to believe that his production will ramp up as his role intensifies in the transition into the regular season, but he certainly has not been productive.

Banchero is the engine of this team, and for the Magic to be at their best, he has to be at his best.

Jase Richardson

Since he was about to embark on his second Summer League run, Magic sophomore guard Jase Richardson has made it a point to be intentional about improving his game in key areas.

In Sunday’s loss to Cleveland, strong elements of his game were on display. From a shooting perspective, Richardson was Orlando's most efficient starter, as he went 5-for-9 from the field for 12 points.

Over the summer, Richardson made it a point to become a better distributor and a better defender. On Sunday, he logged four assists and picked up a steal.

At just 20 years old, Richardson has a long way to go and plenty of time to continue developing, but he has already caught the attention of head coach Sean Sweeney with his work ethic, communication and ability to lead by example.

Banchero and Richardson are in very different roles and very different places in their careers, but when they don their Magic jerseys, they are coming together under a common goal: to win games. Both will be relied upon in different ways this season, and it is up to them to make the most of their opportunities.
