After a Hall of Fame NBA career and four titles won with the San Antonio Spurs, Tony Parker has returned to France to kick off a coaching career.

Tony Parker is different from most San Antonio Spurs legends, in the sense that he does not live in the greater metro area.

Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Bruce Bowen, Sean Elliott, Manu Ginobili, and George Gervin, among others, laid down roots in San Antonio and never left. That's not to say that Parker has any animosity towards the city, though. After his playing career was over, he continued to invest in the French club ASVEL and took over as their head coach in 2025.

Parker is still widely regarded as the best French player in Spurs' history, although Victor Wembanyama is knocking at the door. Over 17 seasons in San Antonio, Parker was a Finals MVP, four-time champion, and six-time All-Star.

He's expressed some interest in ocaching Wemby, although not in Texas.

Tony Parker Dreams of Coaching Victor Wembanyama

Wembanyama has made it very clear that he wants to win France its first Olympic gold medal in basketball, and his team should be one of the favorites at the 2028 Games.

Frédéric Fauthoux is the current head coach of the French squad, although Parker, eventually, would like to take over.

"I hope so, one day,"  said Parker about coaching the French National Team, ideally with Wemby on it. "That's definitely one of my dreams."

Of course, coaching a team led by Wembanyama is a bit easier than managing other superstars, as Wemby doesn't have a big ego and happily dominates on both ends of the floor. He's not just focused on scoring, which Parker greatly appreciates.

"He plays at both ends of the court, and he's young. He's going to keep improving," Parker praised.

Parker, in his dreams of being France's head coach, would take a back seat and allow his best player to lead on and off the court.

"The thing I like is that he challenges his coaches and his teammates, and he wants to lead by example, too," he added.

Wembanyama is yet to lobby for any particular coach, and he and Fauthoux spent some time together this summer as France played in Olympic qualifiers. Team USA will remain the frontrunners in Los Angeles, but with Wembanyama and several other NBA players eligible to play for France, an upset could be brewing.
