Spurs Make Roster Decision on Veteran Big Man Mason Plumlee After 10-Day Contract cover image

Plumlee will stay in San Antonio for the remainder of the 2025-26 season as the Spurs prioritize depth and interior reliability for the postseason run.

Following the end of his 10-day contract, the San Antonio Spurs are signing center Mason Plumlee for the remainder of the season, ESPN's Shams Charania reports.

Plumlee began this season, his 13th in the NBA, with the Charlotte Hornets and will now join a Spurs team making moves in structuring the roster around the upcoming postseason.

The former Duke Blue Devil played in 14 games with the Hornets (twice as a starter) and averaged 1.8 points and 2.9 rebounds in 8.9 minutes per game before signing with San Antonio after his release.

He has still not yet suited up for San Antonio, but will soon be officially joining one of the best teams in the NBA this season as an additional depth piece with the postseason coming into focus.

The Spurs sit second in the Western Conference with a 43-16 record and are in the top 10 in offensive (eighth, 118.0) and defensive (third, 111.3) rating league-wide.

The 7-footer also joins one of the league's best rebounding rosters as the Spurs rank third in total rebounding. The veteran's experience may prove impactful on the offensive glass, however, with San Antonio's rebounding rank dropping to 17th out of 30 in offensive rebounds per game (11.3).

Plumlee's new front court teammates are headlined by All-Star Victor Wembanyama, who leads the team in scoring (23.7 PPG), rebounding (11.2 RPG), and blocked shots (2.8 BPG).

Big men Luke Kornet Kelly Olynyk and Bismack Biyombo fill out an experienced crop of role players around 22-year-old Wembanyama and San Antonio's collection of exciting young guards.

Plumlee holds career averages of 7.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game on nearly 60 percent shooting. The journeyman will now play for his eighth team overall, and fourth over the last three and a half seasons.
