Steph Curry took his recruiting pitch for LeBron James to national television.

LeBron James is still a free agent in the middle of July, and every day without a decision raises the stakes for the teams chasing him.

The 41-year-old told the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason that he plans to play somewhere else in 2026-27, and his list has slowly narrowed to a group that includes the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, and Golden State Warriors.

Stephen Curry has never hidden how much he wants James in the Bay Area, and on Wednesday morning he brought the recruitment into the open.

On Good Morning America, Curry was asked what he would say to James about joining the Warriors, and his answer covered a little of everything.

"The Bay, we know how to win, beautiful weather, great golf... I know he's into that," Curry said. "But like you said, the USA experience that we had, the battles that we had over the years, we just know how to play basketball. And I think that he'll enjoy just the idea of what it means to finish your career the right way."

Why the Fit Works on the Court

The basketball argument is simple enough that Curry barely needed to spell it out.

James averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds in 60 games last season, and even heading into year 24 he is one of the best playmakers in the sport, which is exactly what Golden State is missing.

Curry carried a heavy load again and put up 26.6 points per game in an injury-shortened 43-game season, but the Warriors finished 37-45 and missed the playoffs, with Jimmy Butler's knee injury clouding next season.

Adding James would give the offense a second elite decision-maker, someone who can run the show when Curry sits and punish defenses that chase Curry around screens.

The Pull Beyond Basketball

The off-court sell might be just as strong.

James has spent the last eight years in California, where the Lakers went 53-29 last season before Oklahoma City swept them out of the second round, and staying on the West Coast keeps his family settled and his business world close.

The golf line was not a throwaway either, since James has spent parts of this offseason on the course with Draymond Green, and the shared history runs deep after Curry and James won Olympic gold together in Paris under Steve Kerr and met in four straight Finals from 2015 to 2018.

Where the Race Stands

Curry's pitch does not guarantee anything, but the momentum around it feels real.

James is reportedly giving Golden State stronger consideration after his talks with Green, and Warriors players have kept a direct line to him throughout free agency while most teams work through his agent.

Even Rich Paul has spoken highly of the fit, pointing to a possible core of James, Curry, Green, and Kristaps Porzingis.

The decision belongs to James alone, but if finishing a career the right way means winning, familiarity, and a little golf on the side, Curry just described the Bay Area to the whole country.
