Steve Kerr addressed the reports that Draymond Green may be available for a trade.
The Golden State Warriors suffered a tough loss on Tuesday night to the Philadelphia 76ers, falling 113-94 after being up by 1 at the end of the first quarter and down by just 3 at halftime. Although some of the talk postgame was about the game, much of the attention was also turned to the recent news that Draymond Green's time in the Bay Area may be coming to a close.
With the NBA's trade deadline rapidly approaching, new reports have surfaced that Green may be a trade candidate to a couple of different teams, and based on Green's words, he may be accepting of such a trade if it's truly for the betterment of the Warriors' team.
Whether it's for Giannis Antetokounmpo or a different star or quality role player that the Warriors might have their eye on, this could be the end of the road (for now) for Green and the Warriors.
Steve Kerr Addresses Potential Green Trade
After the game, Kerr touched upon the reports that Green may be traded.
"I talked to him a little bit about it yesterday. I just try to get a feel for what's out there and what's happening, and if I need to step in and say something or talk to a guy, I'll do that. This is probably the first time since I've been here that his name has ever been mentioned in trade talks, so it's different, but it's also part of the league, it's part of almost every player's journey in this league, just being mentioned."
Kerr went on to talk about how the deadline is impacting the team as a whole.
"That's what we tell you, that we don't lose sleep, but we all lose sleep over this. It's a weird profession and a very transient nature to it all, and so it's something every coach has to manage and navigate with his players. I try to do it in a broad sense with our guys every year ... if there are individual names and things that are being talked about, I'll check in with guys periodically. This has definitely been a more difficult (trade deadline) than most."
How High On The All-Time Warriors List Is Green?
If this does end up being the end for Green, he surely goes down as one of the best Warriors of all time.
Even though he was never the clear-cut best player on the team at any given time, Green's impact on defense and as a playmaker, not to mention his role as a vocal leader, was all crucial in helping the Warriors to their four NBA championships over the past decade.
With four All-Star appearances, nine All-Defensive Teams, and a Defensive Player of the Year under his belt to go with the four rings, Green's resume easily stacks up to the rest of the Warrior greats.
It can be hard to truly evaluate his greatness, considering his role as a third or fourth option on offense and the overall average stats he would usually post, but Green has likely done more than enough to get his #23 hung in the rafters of Chase Center when it's all set and done.
