The Golden State Warriors came into the offseason with optimism after the team failed to make the playoffs, but knowing that time is ticking on Steph Curry’s career and trusting the front office to land a major star to fit alongside Curry.

The team was heavily linked to LeBron James from the moment the offseason began, with the selling points being two legends teaming up for one final run, Draymond Green’s friendship with LeBron, LeBron’s respect for head coach Steve Kerr, and remaining in California.

Despite a strong push from those on the Warriors, LeBron opted to head to Philadelphia to join the Sixers in pursuit of another title.

Speaking on the Tom Tolbert Show, Kerr opened up regarding the Warriors’ pursuit of “The King.”

"I don't think it's exactly earth-shattering news, or I don't think I'll get fined for saying, like, it never really felt like he was coming here," Kerr told Tolbert. "To me, it was more speculation than anything. I think we would have had a much better sense that, you know, something was going to happen.”

Kerr said that fans told him they were glad that LeBron didn’t join the team because he is looked at as one of the Warriors’ biggest rivals in their history. LeBron and the Cleveland Cavaliers battled the Warriors in four straight Finals from 2015 to 2018 with the Warriors winning three of the four.

Kerr did say “sign me up” for having LeBron on the team, citing their time together on the Olympics. Led by Kerr, LeBron, Curry, and Kevin Durant, Team USA won the gold medal in the 2024 Olympics.

LeBron’s agent Rich Paul said that LeBron’s decision came down to the 76ers and Warriors. Even though Kerr didn’t feel things were close, it seems like LeBron had a different feeling, at least according to his agent.

Draymond publicly said he made a strong pitch to LeBron, saying his words would make LeBron think twice about his decision during the process. Curry and LeBron also spent time together on the golf course.

LeBron went to Philadelphia to try and compete for another championship, and the Warriors aren’t close to a championship based on how last season went and returning much of the same roster.

Maybe if the Warriors landed Anthony Davis or Jaylen Brown in a trade, LeBron would’ve opted for Golden State. Instead, fans can only take Paris as the memories of the two greatest of their generation teaming up.
