The Warriors dropped an injury-riddled road game against the Lakers on Saturday.

The Golden State Warriors traveled down to Los Angeles to finish off their short two-game road trip against the Lakers. What was supposed to be a heavyweight showdown featuring Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler, Luka Doncic, LeBron James, and Austin Reaves ended up only featuring the latter two due to a myriad of injuries on both sides, but nonetheless turned out to be a game that came down to the wire.

After their emphatic win over the Phoenix Suns on Thursday, the Warriors and their defense, in particular, were raring to go. However, despite an excellent first half, a 38-point third quarter by the Lakers put the Warriors on their back heels and ended up being too much to overcome as they eventually lost, 105-99.

Steve Kerr Still Praises Warriors

After the game, Steve Kerr made sure to still praise the Warriors and their play tonight, even if it wasn't the result they were hoping for.

"Just couldn't generate enough offense. But I love the effort and the fight, and we'll keep plugging away."

The Warriors could only cash in on 14 of their 51 three-point attempts, good for just 27.5% from the field, but true to Kerr's words, they did play well elsewhere. They kept their turnovers down to just 12 and turned 22 Lakers turnovers into 25 points.

Additionally, despite being the worst team in the league at points in the paint while the Lakers are 11th, the Warriors actually outscored them in the key, 48-42.

Warriors Role Player Continue To Show Promise

Though they didn’t come away with the win, the Warriors’ role players still put forth a valiant effort and had some solid stat lines.

The Dubs were led by Moses Moody, who dropped 25 points and five triples to lead all scorers in the game. It was Moody’s 12th double-digit scoring game in his last 13, only missing the mark against the Suns. Moody will hopefully be able to continue playing like this even when Steph Curry and eventually Kristaps Porzingis enter the rotation.

Brandin Podziemski, Gui Santos, Pat Spencer, and Gary Payton II joined Moody as double-digit scorers. It’s Santos’ sixth game in a row with double figures, as he’s really come into his own as of late. The latter three also shot at least 50% from the field.

Alas, it turned out to be some of the best players from Thursday's win that fell short on Saturday, including De'Anthony Melton and Al Horford. The two veteran players shot a combined 4/16 from the field for just 9 points and were both heavily negative in the plus/minus column — a rarity this year, especially in Melton's case.

Though the Warriors' performances weren’t quite enough, it’s overall promising to know they’re able to make some noise even without Curry to lead the way.
