With the losing streak now at 15 games, the Washington Wizards are set to open their five game road trip with a Sunday evening matchup set against the New York Knicks.
The Wizards are coming off a 21 point loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder at home on Saturday night, a game that also featured a fight and four ejections in the final seconds of the first half. But it also marked a game when Washington showed fight for 36 minutes before inching closer toward the NBA's worst record, which big picture, is the ideal scenario for an organization looking to see signs of growth amid a lost season.
Sunday will mark another chance for Washington to do exactly that once again, along with a chance to avenge a 31 point loss in the last meeting at Capital One Arena back on Feb. 3 in what may have been one of the most uninspiring losses in a season full of them.
New York enters the meeting on a five game win streak after holding off the Brooklyn Nets for a one point win on the road on Friday night. They also sit in third in the Eastern Conference standings with a two game lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers and 1.5 games back from the Boston Celtics.
The Wizards have yet to release their injury report as of Sunday morning, though both Bilal Coulibaly and Bub Carrington were available for Saturday's loss. Kyshawn George has remained sidelined since March 2 after suffering a partially torn UCL with a three week recovery timeline previously announced. Of course, both Trae Young and Anthony Davis also remain sidelined after the team provided updates on both players earlier in the week with their status now uncertain for the final 12 games of the regular season. Tristan Vukcevic has chipped in to pick up the scoring slack with head coach Brian Keefe dealing with minimal depth to end the 2025-26 campaign.
The Knicks will also have several players whose status is undetermined ahead of tipoff. Josh Hart, Ariel Hukporti, Trey Jemison III, Dillon Jones, Tyler Koleb and Kevin McCullar Jr are all ruled questionable ahead of tipoff. The lone players already ruled out are Landy Shamet and Miles McBride with Shamet sidelined for his first game and McBride unavailable since late January.
