Bleacher Report points to three ideal free agent targets to complete the Washington Wizards rebuild ahead of 2026-27
Who would you want the Wizards to pursue?
The 2025-26 season has been one to forget for the Washington Wizards - at least on the floor.
For the fourth time in three seasons, the Washington Wizards have tied a franchise record after recording their 16th consecutive loss, this time a 32-point loss against the New York Knicks. Whether Washington can end the slide to avoid resetting the record will be the next question in an upcoming tank off matchup with game two of a five-game road trip against the Utah Jazz, who currently own the league's fifth-worst record.
Of course, the future makeup of the Wizards should look different. Trae Young has returned to the bench after suffering a minor injury with the team cautious and patient with his return, while Anthony Davis has yet to make his debut after the team announced he will be re-evaluated despite available games to do so dwindling this season. Though the two trades ahead of the deadline drastically altered the outlook of the future of the organization, what moves could general manager Will Dawkins and the front office make the move the needle in 2026-27?
Bleacher Report pointed to Knicks big man Mitchell Robinson as the dream target this offseason with the mid-level exception available to use. Robinson posted ten points, ten rebounds and a pair of blocks against the Wizards on Sunday as he's averaging 10.3 rebounds over his last ten games and 8.9 on the season, while also shooting 71.4% from the field. Robinson's pairing with Tristan Vukcevic could stabilize the frontcourt.
Bleacher Report's realistic target was John Collins, who could be an attractive option capable of adding more scoring to the frontcourt depth. Collins is shooting 40.5% from three and 55.4% from the field while averaging 13.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in his first season with the Clippers, starting in all but ten of Los Angeles' 59 games so far this season. But given Vukcevic's inside-out scoring touch, would the addition of Collins be redundant?
The final target tabbed as the optimistic target is Day'Ron Sharpe, who enters the offseason with a $6.3 million team option. The big man has been sidelined for the Brooklyn Nets since March 9, but he's impressed in a rotational role after averaging 8.7 points and 6.7 rebounds in 18.7 minutes per game. But maybe the bigger question is whether the Nets would opt to move on from the 24 year old former first round pick on a financially attractive contract.
