Robert Griffin III sparked a viral frenzy by revealing a bizarre secret about the Heisman candidate’s domestic life, overshadowing the quarterback’s dominant season.
Sometimes news comes from the oddest places.
Like watching the FOX Sports College Football broadcast to hear a commentator say a player has "naked dinners" with his family.
That was the case on Sept. 12 with Robert Griffin III and BYU Cougars QB Bear Bachmeier. This was a "family secret" that we reported eariler in the week, but wanted to revisit now with the story going viral.
First off, how does something like this happen? Not the dinners, but talking about it. This is certainly not something you lead with. Sources say RGIII was trying to get an understanding of Bachmeier's background, and it came up in casual conversation during a walk-through production meeting for FOX.

If that's true or not, I don't think anyone is going to talk about it right now.
The Cougars are undefeated at 3-0 and ranked ninth in the country. Bachmeier is gathering attention because he's one of the best passers in the nation.
The Heisman candidate is working his way up among the best in college football, including Ole Miss' Trinidad Chambliss and Texas' Arch Manning. He was a camp counselor at this year's Manning Passing Academy after the best season as freshman quarterback in BYU history. Many people have been watching his encore sophomore season to see if he can put up better numbers than the ones in 2025.
In all fairness, nobody could've predicted these details to be dropped the way they were.
BYU had the Arizona game wrapped up in the fourth quarter with another Bachmeier touchdown and RGIII casually mentioned the eating habits of the star quarterback. Trust me, it surprised many people. But it was a slow-rolling story, too. There was a full week that passed before outlets started to talk about it.
The worst timing for Bachmeier with BYU in the midst of a bye week. Something tells me this will be a story that follows him. This could be the scripted beginning of a Southwest Airlines "Wanna Get Away" commercial. On the other end, RGII should probably have just kept some details to himself. There's no shame in your rough draft not being your final product.
Bachmeier's best move right now is to play this off as a joke and move on. There's family game night or maybe even family movie night. But dinner at the Bachmeiers sounds rather bizarre.
Nevertheless, BYU will continue the season on Oct. 3 in Fort Worth against the TCU Horned Frogs (7 p.m. ET, ESPN or ESPN2).
