Clemson Tigers Freshman is Already Generating Major Buzz

The Clemson Tigers netted three four-star wide receivers for their 2026 recruiting class, but none have caught as much attention as Naeem Burroughs.

Burroughs absolutely seems a step above Gordon Sellars and Connor Salmin, and there seems to be a good chance he will earn the No. 3 receiver role whenever Dabo Swinney decides to release a depth chart.

There is a whole lot to like about Burroughs, who looked great in spring practice and has been every bit as explosive in fall camp.

In fact, ESPN's Billy Tucker listed Burroughs among the 51 freshmen most likely to make an impact during the 2026 college football season.

"Burroughs can fly. The wiry 6-foot receiver ranked No. 111 on the SC Next 300 and clocked out at speeds north of 21 mph on tape as a high schooler," Tucker wrote. "Burroughs enrolled early and made a strong first impression on Clemson's coaching staff this spring, and that is often a precursor to a fall breakout. He could wrestle away the Tigers' slot receiver duties at some point in 2026."

T.J. Moore and Bryant Wesco Jr. are Clemson's top two receivers. That is unquestioned. But could Burroughs ultimately jump ahead of upperclassmen Tyler Brown and Tristan Smith?

He seems to stand a great chance, and Swinney has shown no qualms about giving freshman receivers significant burn in the past. Heck, just ask Moore, Wesco and Brown, all of whom once enjoyed standout freshman campaigns.

Burroughs was the 14th-ranked wide receiver and 96th-ranked player in his class, via 247 Sports' composite rankings. He was a fantastic get for the Tigers, and given their history of churning out terrific receivers, it didn't come as much of a surprise.

Perhaps the biggest obstacle for Burroughs in Year 1 will be Clemson's quarterback situation. Christopher Vizzina is slated to start, but there are serious questions about Vizzina heading into his redshirt junior season.

If it turns out that Vizzina can sling it, Burroughs could ultimately develop into one of his most lethal weapons right off the bat.

We'll see how the rest of fall camp shakes out for Burroughs and if he is ultimately primed to take the nation by storm in Year 1.
