The Clemson Tigers have received a major update from a five-star commit who is rumored to be considering flipping.
The Clemson Tigers have not exactly lit up the recruiting trail in recent years, at least not exactly like they did during the program's heyday.
Regardless, Clemson is still a factor, and it did bag five-star wide receiver Jamarin Simmons for the class of 2027.
That the Tigers were able to net a top receiver is no surprise considering the school's history with elite players at the position.
Even now, Clemson has a pair of top-flight wide outs in T.J. Moore and Bryant Wesco leading the squad, and it landed three four-star receivers in Naeem Burroughs, Gordon Sellars and Connor Salmin for the class of 2026.
But is it possible that Simmons could ultimately bolt Death Valley?
The Tallahassee native is being wooed by the Florida Gators, and Florida recently attempted to bring him in for a visit during its Week 4 win over Ole Miss. Simmons ultimately declined the trip to Gainesville, which was great news for the Tigers.
Even better is that Simmons will be in town for Clemson's Week 5 matchup with the Miami Hurricanes, as he told The Clemson Insider he plans on making the trip for Saturday.
Simmons took an official visit to Clemson over the summer, and this will mark his first meeting with the Tigers since.
The 5-foot-11, 165-pound burner hauled in 59 receptions for 932 yards and 14 touchdowns during his senior campaign at Amos P. Godby last year. Through the first five games of his senior season, he has caught 31 passes for 576 yards and six scores.
Simmons is the fifth-ranked wide receiver and the 26th-ranked player overall in the class of 2027, via 247 Sports. In terms of composite rankings, he is 16th among receivers and 94th overall.
Clemson has already secured commitments from three wide receivers for 2027, with four-star talent Trey Wimbley and three-star prospect Kharim Hughley being the other two.
The Tigers own the 13th-ranked recruiting class in the country next year, a major step up from 2026, which ranks 25th and didn't feature a single five-star prospect. In fact, the 2027 class represents Clemson's best since 2021.
We'll see if Simmons does ultimately decide to stick with the Tigers. Thus far, it's looking pretty good for Dabo Swinney and Co.
Meanwhile, Clemson has won three games in a row following its humiliating opening night loss to LSU. If the Tigers are able to upset Miami this weekend, it could change a whole lot about their trajectory.
