Coach Prime breaks his silence on Shilo’s decade-long legal saga, delivering a sharp critique of the $11.8 million bankruptcy battle stemming from a high school assault judgment.

Deion Sanders hasn't been shy about expressing his opinion. The Colorado Buffaloes coach was recently down at his compound in Texas and stirred up a conversation with his sons, Deion Jr. and Shedeur, about who would end up with his next grandchild.

While going back-and-forth, Sanders made one of his first real public comments about his son Shilo’s bankruptcy case. Most would believe he was trying to be funny, but it also came off as a jab.

“Shilo have a baby, they gonna serve the baby… ‘You have a court date,’” Sanders said in a recent Well Off Media video. “Hey, they got to stop this man. You can’t be in court 15 years. It’s not possible. How haven't we been to court yet?"

Shilo Sanders filed for bankruptcy while playing for his father at Colorado in 2023. The Buffs' defensive back racked up $11.8 million in debt tied to an assault from when he was in high school. According to court documents, John Darjean, a former security guard, tried to confiscate Shilo’s cell phone at school in Dallas and was left with permanent injuries from the incident. Sanders, who was 15 at the time, was sued by Darjean.

The case was delayed for years until 2022, when Shilo was at Jackson State. He failed to appear in court, forcing a default judgment against him. Sanders is trying to discharge the debt in bankruptcy court, but Darjean is fighting for what he's legally owed.

Sanders claimed he acted in self-defense and is trying to prove there was no malice intent. The incident was bad enough for Deion Sanders to place his son in a juvenile detention center in Texas, according to court records.

Since filing for bankruptcy in 2023, Sanders has been fighting to keep his name out of the press but also hasn't helped his case. While recently defending his brother, Shedeur, he told Cleveland Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot to "Go make a sandwich." He received a lot of backlash for the comment.

Deion Sanders and the Buffs open his fourth season in Atlanta. The opener against Georgia Tech will feel like a bit of a homecoming in the city that 'Prime Time' started his Hall of Fame NFL career. Colorado will be riding behind Julian Lewis at quarterback, who's also from nearby Carrollton, Georgia.

The Thursday night affair on Sept. 3 kicks off at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
