The Duke Blue Devils have added a third commitment in the 2027 recruiting class on Wednesday.

The Duke Blue Devils continue preparing for the upcoming 2026-27 college basketball season, which tips off next week. But the future of the program is in recruiting classes.

On Wednesday, Duke earned another commitment for the 2027 class and it's a big one.

Five-star small forward Asa Montgomery pledged his verbal commitment to the Blue Devils, ending his recruitment. The announcement came around 1:30 p.m. ET, giving Duke some great news regarding that 2027 class.

Montgomery is now the third player to commit to the class, joining four-star wing Kager Knueppel and Australian product Luke Paul.

The 6-foot-7, 215-pound small forward had 28 offers in his recruitment but cut his list down to five schools. He visited Duke, UNC, UConn, Georgia Tech and LSU in his recruitment and selected the Blue Devils over that group. His last visit was to Duke and that's where the momentum shifted according to multiple recruiting experts.

Duke was able to do enough on that visit to take the lead in the recruitment and there was really no pressure in terms of other programs trying to make one last push and land him away from the Blue Devils since that visit. Wednesday confirmed that with Montgomery's announcement.

Montgomery hails from Powder Springs, Georgia and plays at Hillgrove High School. He's seen a big jump in his recruiting ranking, climbing 28 spots to No. 14 in the 247Sports rankings. In the composite rankings, which take into account multiple recruiting sites, he's ranked No. 8 nationally, No. 3 among small forwards, and the No. 2 player in the state of Georgia.

With the commitment of Montgomery, Duke's class will move up in the team rankings when updated. Right now, Duke sits at 38th overall with both Knueppel and Montgomery rated as a 97 grade.

Duke's 2027 class could be wrapped up in terms of high school recruits. But they should still be very active when it comes to the transfer portal. The way Jon Scheyer and his staff attacked the past recruiting cycle, they do expect some of these current roster guys to stick around which would signal a smaller class for 2027.

But then again, you can never count the Blue Devils out of any recruitment.
