The Florida Gators and newly-hired head coach Jon Sumrall have already blown through expectations throughout the course of the offseason on the 2027 recruiting trail.

After landing a total of 29 commits via the transfer portal upon his arrival to Gainesville, Sumrall and the coaching staff were able to carry their recent success within the high school recruitment department, as Florida possesses 17 commits in the 2027 cycle. This includes one of the best offensive lineman prospects in five-star Maxwell Hiller, as well as four-star quarterback and Elite 11 Finalist, Davin Davidson.

However, despite his phenomenal run thus far, Sumrall has shown no signs of stopping as we enter the month of June.

This weekend, Florida hosted 2027 four-star running back and Oklahoma Sooners commit Keldrid Ben on an official visit in hopes of flipping the talented prospect out of the state of Texas.

Ben, who has quickly made a name for himself throughout the course of his 2025 high school season, has caught the attention of many Power Four programs this offseason. As of this month, Ben is the No. 5-ranked running back in the 2027 recruiting class, as well as a consensus top-15 prospect in the state of Texas, according to 247Sports’ Composite.

While the dynamic rusher did not receive a massive workload during his sophomore season at Montgomery High School, Ben would eventually become a focal point of the offense the following season. In 2025, Ben finished his junior campaign with 1,560 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns, while also recording 299 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 16 receptions through the air.

Standing at 5-foot-10, 208 lbs., Ben possesses a rare blend of size and speed that will allow him to excel at the college level. In addition to his perfect frame, the talented playmaker has the ability to be a threat in both the pass and run game, which would make him a versatile threat for newly-hired offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner’s system if he ultimately decides to flip his commitment.

While it remains unclear as to what Ben’s future college plans will be after his recent official visit, the Gators already have one running back commit in the upcoming class, four-star Andrew Beard. The No. 9-ranked running back in the 2027 cycle announced his commitment to the program earlier this month, however, a future running back duo of Ben and Beard would be a lethal combination.
