Jon Sumrall is eyeing a dominant 2028 class by targeting five-star playmaker Braylon Clark, a prolific North Carolina weapon poised to transform the future of Florida’s offense.
While the Florida Gators and head coach Jon Sumrall continue to make noise within the 2027 recruiting trail, the newest coaching staff is already beginning to prepare for future recruiting classes this offseason.
Since arriving in Gainesville back in December, Sumrall and company have accumulated a total of 24 commits within the 2027 recruiting class, including five-star offensive tackle Maxwell Hiller and four-star quarterback Davin Davidson. However, while most of the attention has been focused on the 2027 class, the Gators are clearly making an early impression on multiple 2028 prospects this summer.
One name that has begun to generate buzz amongst the Gators’ fanbase is 2028 five-star wide receiver Braylon Clark, who could wind up becoming one of the top prospects in Florida’s future recruiting class.
Everything You Need to Know About Clark
Clark, an impressive pass catcher in the 2028 class, has quickly become a top target for Sumrall and the Gators this offseason. As of this month, the highly touted offensive playmaker is the No. 2-ranked prospect in the state of North Carolina, as well as the No. 4-ranked wide receiver in the 2028 recruiting class, according to 247Sports’ Composite.
After showing promise during his freshman season at Providence Day School in Charlotte, NC, Clark made huge progress as an offensive weapon in 2025, recording 65 receptions for 1,093 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. His strong sophomore campaign led to him receiving an early invitation to the 2027 Adidas Polynesian Bowl, giving him the opportunity to compete against some of the best prospects in the nation.
Standing at 6-foot-2, 188 lbs., Clark already possesses a terrific blend of size and athleticism to be a future star wideout at the college level. His ability to win downfield and in contested-catch situations will allow him to be a threat at all three levels of the field.
However, in order for Sumrall and the Gators to land the prolific 2028 wide receiver, the program must fight off the likes of multiple Power Four schools, including the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Oregon Ducks, and the Tennessee Volunteers.
Looking ahead at the Gators’ 2028 class, Sumrall has already secured one wide receiver for the future recruiting cycle in four-star Armani Strong. If the Florida coaching staff is able to land Clark, the combination of the North Carolina native and Strong will be a terrific start to the 2028 cycle for the Gators.
