As the transfer portal continues to be a hot topic amongst college football fans, the Florida Gators and newly-hired head coach Jon Sumrall are beginning to make serious noise this offseason.
According to On3Sports’ Blake Alderman on Monday, former UCLA defensive back Kanye Clark has signed with the Gators after taking an official visit to Gainesville last weekend.
Clark, who was originally a wide receiver coming out of high school, was not highly rated within the 2023 recruiting class. He would go on to land multiple Division I offers, including from Fresno State, Washington State, and New Mexico State. However, Clark would bet on himself and ultimately decide to walk on at UCLA.
Despite not receiving a scholarship from the Bruins, Clark still managed to obtain some playing time throughout his first two seasons with the program as a defensive back. In his three games played during his first two years, the young playmaker tallied four tackles and two pass deflections.
However, Clark would eventually see an uptick in his playing time in 2025 with UCLA. The California native would go on to play in eight games this year, recording 23 tackles, two pass deflections, and one forced fumble. Clark shined in his last two games with the Bruins, racking up 12 tackles, one pass deflection, and one forced fumble against Washington and USC.
Now, with the former Big 10 defensive player joining the mix for Sumrall in 2026, the Gators’ depth within the secondary unit continues to grow this offseason. In addition to Clark, Florida also managed to land Kentucky safety Cam Dooley and Baylor safety DJ Coleman in the portal.
Clark’s signing also puts the program at 20 transfer portal signees this offseason, thanks to the likes of Sumrall. This includes Georgia Tech quarterback Aaron Philo, who spent multiple seasons under the Gators’ newest offensive coordinator, Buster Faulkner.
Joining Philo on offense will be former Auburn veteran wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr., who will offer plenty of experience at the position. Singleton also played under Faulkner for two seasons in 2023 and 2024, as he recorded 1,468 receiving yards and nine touchdowns with the Yellow Jackets.
