The Florida Gators and head coach Jon Sumrall were unable to secure a commitment from this highly-touted prospect last week.
The Florida Gators, under newly-hired head coach Jon Sumrall, have managed to put together an incredible run this offseason on the 2027 recruiting trail.
However, while the program continues to be one of the top-ranked schools within the upcoming recruiting cycle, Sumrall has clearly shown no signs of stopping his dominant run. But unfortunately for Gators’ fans, a top target in the 2027 class slipped away from the program late last week.
According to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett on Sunday evening, 2027 three-star cornerback Dylan Haley has committed to the Tennessee Volunteers over the likes of Sumrall and the Gators.
What’s Next For Florida?
Haley, a talented athlete out of the state of Georgia, was a key target for Florida in the 2027 recruiting class. The highly-touted cornerback is a consensus top-100 prospect in Georgia, as well as the No. 53-ranked athlete in the upcoming recruiting cycle, per 247Sports’ Composite.
Despite Sumrall beginning his push for the rising playmaker upon his arrival at the program this offseason, head coach Josh Heupel and the Volunteers were among the first schools to offer Haley back in November of 2025. And while Haley was set to take official visits to both Florida and Ole Miss in June, Tennessee secured his commitment following his official visit last week.
Luckily for the Gators and their newest head coach, the struggling program remains to be one of the top schools within the 2027 recruiting cycle. With a total of 22 commits, Florida is the No. 4-ranked school in the 2027 class, according to 247Sports. The highly-regarded class under Sumrall is led by five-star offensive tackle Maxwell Hiller, along with a total of 15 four-star commits, including Elite 11 Finalist Davin Davidson.
In addition to Florida’s strong efforts in the 2027 recruiting cycle, the coaching staff has already managed to land a pair of four-star cornerbacks in Amare Nugent and Aamaury Fountain.
Nugent was the first commit under Sumrall, while the Gators remain in the running for four-star cornerback Raheem Floyd, who is set to take his official visit to Gainesville on Jun 11.
