Florida State baseball is off to a fast 3-0 start after toppling James Madison and Jacksonville University.
Yet the Seminoles have done it without a prized transfer being in the lineup.
Is Trey Beard on his way back soon? Especially with the loaded Amegy Bank College Series upcoming?
Head coach Link Jarrett addressed Beard's situation via Zoom with reporters Thursday morning ahead of the Arlington, Tex., tournament.
Turns out Beard was dealing with a fierce illness.
"He's doing a lot better, and it's just when you have that stomach virus/bug, it takes you a while to get your strength back," Jarrett explained.
Jarrett added that Beard is no longer resting.
"He threw this week, and he'll jump on the mound today and throw, so we'll see," Jarrett added.
What ailments were effected during the time Beard fell ill?
"It's more just the strength and the overall body, that's really the crux of this," Jarrett said. "And this is a long season, when somebody's beat up like that, you want to be smart and wise."
Jarrett presented questions involving the latter that he chose to answer himself.
"Could he throw theoretically? Sure, he could probably throw, but we have to be smart and protect these guys," Jarrett said.
The head coach is even more at ease with who supports and backs Beard in this scenario.
"And we have great support around with our athletic training staff, our medical team of doctors, and our nutritionists. Everybody is trying to get that strength and weight back up," Jarrett said.
Sounds like Beard lost some weight during a time he felt ill.
Beard, again, arrived as one of the more coveted transfers in the baseball portal. He spoke highly of Jarrett and FSU when he revealed why he chose the 'Noles.
"I think Link Jarrett just made it a really easy decision. It was probably my shortest meeting and they got straight to the point. They just made it a comfortable environment," Beard said during an appearance on the Sunday Golds Podcast. "Also seeing the success of left-handed pitchers under him, I just feel like all away around it was an easy decision."
