The Seminoles happen to know the departing Villanova point guard well for this reason.
The NCAA Transfer Portal season for basketball sets off two days from Easter. Florida State is expected to become a major player in adding veteran talent, especially in building off its late surge.
And among those entering the portal? Talent FSU once pursued out of high school...including Easter Sunday's entry out of Villanova.
Acaden Lewis revealed his decision to part ways with the Big East power. The point guard will be highly coveted in the portal.
His entry hands FSU the chance to re-recruit him. But now for the following reasons.
Florida State needs guard help
Head coach Luke Loucks created a strong front court system for his first Seminoles team. That part will be decimated by graduations.
However guard has become hit hard ahead of portal season.
Already the Noles lost Cam Miles and Martin Somerville, the latter standing out as the biggest departure. He became effective at taking care of the basketball (2.29:1 assist-to-turnover ratio) and shot 33.7% from deep. Somerville also led the way with steals in 49.
Lewis presents his own shooting touch with a knack for controlling the basketball on the floor.
Lewis can boost scoring
He leaves Philadelphia and the Big East averaging more than 12 points a game.
The 6-foot-3 guard is a rim attacker even with his smaller frame. The southpaw can even finish layups with two hands.
Lewis also attacks defenses with soft floaters released from his left hand (his dominant hand). He's a huge scoring threat off screens and takes advantage of the spacing between him and his defender.
He produced seven games of surpassing 20 points. Although he endured a rough scoring night against Utah State by settling for only seven points. But still, Lewis found ways to attack the net and rose as a double-digit scoring option for first-year 'Nova head coach Kevin Willard.
How Lewis can fit Seminoles
Loucks may have relied on his front court, but he has an NBA-style system implemented.
His approach is the following: Create lots of floor spacing then attack in aggressive fashion.
Lewis should welcome both elements. He performed so much better off screens.
Furthermore, FSU needs a new floor leader and someone who'll bring March Madness experience in tow. Lewis also played for an established program with national title banners hanging inside the arena. He can brings a new winning mindset over to Tallahassee.
FSU was among the 29 schools that offered the Washington D.C. native when he starred for Sidwell Friends School. Now they can re-offer and aim to reel him in.
