Wes Enis may be one high-profile talent who left USF. But Onyx Nnani is another worth pursuing if you're the Seminoles.
Florida State basketball ought to pay close attention to the roster exodus going on at South Florida.
Wes Enis is already one high-profile talent who left the Bulls. Outside of USF, the Seminoles are also rumored to be interested in Anthony Robinson II who left Missouri.
But another intriguing USF player is departing: Forward Onyx Nnani, who revealed his intentions for the portal on Saturday morning.
Looking at Nnani more closely, head coach Luke Loucks and his FSU staff should definitely make a run for these reasons.
Nnani presents high ceiling in front court
While recruiting rankings often get tossed when a prospect lands at a university, it does present a factor in evaluations including from coaches.
Nnani is a former four-star talent who presents a high ceiling.
He showed strong faceup ability (shots taken while facing the hoop) and displayed strong shot creation in the high post during his prep career. Nnani also became an aggressive rim attacker.
The downside was his turnover habits, which became repetitive at the prep level. He also landed at a stacked USF roster and managed to see just one minute per game.
It's clear he got lost in the shuffle. Maybe Loucks can unlock him if given the chance. Here's this sales pitch that could persuade Nnani.
Loucks got a career-year out of one forward
Chauncey Wiggins and his development could be what coaxes Nnani to come over if Loucks makes a run.
Wiggins didn't necessarily endure playing time struggles at his last post (played three seasons at Atlantic Coast Conference rival Clemson). But he ascended under Loucks in hitting a career-high 13.3 points per game this past season.
Wiggins even came with a near-similar build to Nnani. Loucks found ways to get him to score inside the post but also improve his 3-point shooting (Wiggins shot at 38.7% from behind the arc). Loucks even improved his free throw percentage as well.
Time for the final reason why Nnani and FSU should be a pairing.
FSU needs frontcourt help
Wiggins is leaving Tallahassee as a senior. Same with Alex Steen, another senior.
Loucks has a deep senior class to fill. He'll need to hit the portal hard anyway.
Enis presents his reasons for why the Noles should pull him in. This despite the high level of interest he can receive in the portal market.
Nnani may not command that much attention. But looks like he needs to land at a place that'll unlock him and showed a way to maximize a forward's potential...a la Wiggins.
Nnani can stay in-state and look into Tallahassee. The allure of the ACC and showing why he was a four-star can come into play here.
