Florida State beating Indiana for a football recruit would've never become a big deal five years ago.
Yet IU just celebrated the national title -- and are winning over recruits following its first-ever championship run.
FSU is now prioritizing a quarterback who got offered by the Hoosiers -- who raved about his recent Tallahassee visit.
Derrick Baker of Alpharetta, Ga., told Noles247 that he stepped out of the FSU campus pleased with his trip, especially talking to QBs coach Austin Tucker and assistant Tony Tokarz.
"It was phenomenal," Baker said to Chris Nee. "Getting to see coach Tucker here, I know the last time I came, coach Tokarz was here. Really getting to sit down with coach Tucker and go on the white board and really get to break down some of the stuff they run – their fundamentals. It really gave me a deeper insight of what this whole program is about."
But he also met with the head honchos involved with making the Seminoles offense go: Offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn and head coach Mike Norvell.
"Getting to sit with coach Malzahn and coach Norvell, getting to talk to them again. I know I've been able to do it before. It's just nice to continue to build a relationship," Baker added. "It's phenomenal."
Baker stands at 6-foot-2, 220-pounds and is a three-star talent. But some big name programs have offered him and not just limited to FSU.
Georgia is involved as an early in-state option. Tennessee has also offered. Auburn comes with this twist: Baker plays for Tigers legend Cam Newton's 7-on-7 team. But Indiana represents one his larger scale offers.
But where does the 'Noles stand for Baker? And is FSU one of the favorites?
"FSU is definitely at the top of the list," Baker said. "They're a school I've been to a lot of times and been able to build the most relationships with – especially Norvell. I've seen him the most out of any of the head coaches I've been around. That's a strong relationship right there."
Florida State has hosted an influx of recruits the last two weeks for junior days. They're even prioritizing decommit safety Jaylen Scott.
Even Oregon commit and edge rusher Cameron Pritchett visited the Seminoles, who are very much involved in flip efforts for the defender.
