The Georgia Bulldogs are ready for the task.
The Georgia Bulldogs have their biggest game of the year on Saturday night against the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, and it's no secret they have struggled in the regular season against this team.
Kirby Smart has not been able to solve the Tide the first time around in a season just yet, and it's been nearly two decades since the Dawgs have secured a victory in Bryant-Denny Stadium. If things are going to change this time around, Georgia will have to be at its best and its stars are going to have to be just that.
One of those stars might just be the best defensive lineman in college football in Elijah Griffin. While speaking about the game, Griffin seemed to have the exact right mindset and says this team is not running from the challenge, but rather embracing it.
Elijah Griffin Says UGA Will 'Run to Storm'
"We’re super excited because we don’t back down from challenges," Griffin said via On3. "We run to the storm. We don’t run away from it. We’re definitely 100 percent ready, in my opinion."
Griffin added the fact that while he understands why the game is billed up as much as it is and why folks are going to make a huge deal about it, but that the team is simply focused on the task at hand and blocking out the noise to do what it takes to win. The Dawgs want to win this game as badly as anyone, but making things more than they are is a recipe for playing tight and making mistakes.
Instead, Georgia has to focus on playing its own game and doing the things it takes to win, and it sounds like that is the mindset from this team. Despite being just a sophomore, Griffin is one of the most important leaders on this team and the rest of the defensive line will feed if his energy.
If he's calm, so will everyone else, and while that unit has to be ferocious, they have to do it in a smart way as well. In terms of his mindset going into this game, it sounds like Griffin is doing what it takes to get ready for this game.
If he were to have a big night and the rest of the defense around him were to follow suit, Georgia is going to have a very good chance to win this game. Time will tell if the Bulldogs are in fact ready as Griffin says, but the test is coming, and it won't be long before we find out.
