The Georgia Bulldogs have a tough call to make.

The Georgia Bulldogs are less than two weeks away from the regular season getting started, and while for the most part starting roles are decided at this point, there is some interesting stuff going on down the depth chart.

Going into fall camp, redshirt sophomore Ryan Puglisi was certainly the favorite to be the backup quarterback, and while this still will likely end up being the case, it sounds like things are getting somewhat interesting behind him. Georgia has two other potential options for QB2, and it sounds like each of them are starting to make some noise.

According to some intel from UGA Sports On3, both Ryan Montgomery as well as Hezekiah Millender had strong scrimmages this past weekend, and each have made the conversation on the depth chart interesting

Is Ryan Puglisi in Danger of Losing QB2 Job?

At the end of the day, it's pretty late in the game for Puglisi to lose his job as the backup quarterback, and competition is of course what any team wants in the QB room with everyone playing their best right before the season.

Reports like this feel more notable for the seasons ahead rather than in 2026, and Georgia could have a very interesting race in 2027 after Gunner Stockton finishes up his career in Athens and the team has to turn the page.

In all likelihood, the Bulldogs are going to go with someone internal rather than using the transfer portal for their starting quarterback, so it's more likely than not that next year's starter is already on the roster. Puglisi would be the heir apparent, but clearly there are now others vying for it as well.

It's not to say the junior has not done a nice job himself and all indications are the staff is happy with the job he's done as well. A true open competition is going to be held though, and it seems Montgomery and well as Millender are going to be involved in that race.

Puglisi is likely this team's backup quarterback, but this is an interesting development headed into the year and exactly what fans want to hear. Competition breeds excellence, and that is exactly what the Dawgs have on their hands in the quarterback room. This is something to monitor over the coming weeks and all season long in mop up duty as everyone tries to make their case as the 2027 starter.
