The Georgia Bulldogs have seen a very impressive fall camp from a surprising player.

The Georgia Bulldogs are just days away from the start of game week in Athens, and fans are absolutely ready to get back into Sanford Stadium and for the season to get started.

At this late stage of fall camp, not many are going to emerge to steal away starting spots, but that does not mean Kirby Smart and the coaching staff are not going to evaluate ongoing position battles where it's close. One of those areas is the safety room, with a spot opposite of KJ Bolden or in the slot still up for some debate.

A player who has emerged over the last few weeks who looks poised to play a significant role is now senior Charlotte native Kyron Jones, who could be due for his best season yet in the program despite entering the summer as an afterthought due to injury. Jeremy Johnson of UGA Sports On3 reports that Jones had another big scrimmage this past weekend and has continued to make some real noise.

Kyron Jones May Be Forcing Role in Georgia's Defense

"Jones keeps popping up," Johnson wrote. "Jones is asserting himself as not only a potential starter but a potential difference maker. He’s risen into consciousness more than anyone so far this preseason."

Last year, Jones played well during the first half of the year before a foot injury wound up ending his season and thus opened up the question going into the spring as to whether or not one of the safety spots was open. He has performed so well throughout camp that he may have answered it and given the staff a reliable option who has been in the program for the last several years.

2025 seemed like it was going to be the breakout year for Jones in the secondary, but now, it seems that has been delayed until this year. He is going to have to prove it on the field, but it appears Jones has put himself in a spot during fall camp where he is not going to be denied from having a significant role on this defense.

When the team takes the field here in just 12 days, look for Jones to be a consistent part of the safety rotation, and potentially someone who the Dawgs can rely upon to give some quality snaps in this secondary which could be one of the best in the country.
