The Georgia Bulldogs are doing what they feel is best, and once again, the fans are the ones who lose.

The Georgia Bulldogs and Clemson Tigers made some headlines this past week when it was reported that an upcoming set of home and home series -- a total of four games in Athens and in Clemson -- was not going to be played.

The Athens Banner-Herald was the first to report last Tuesday that the series which was set to see games at Clemson in 2029 and 2033 and in Athens in 2030 and 2032 was mutually agreed upon to be cancelled. While it is understandable why this is happening in the wake of the SEC moving to nine conference games and big time showdowns like this being cancelled around the country, it's just the latest brutal sign of the times in college football.

As has been the case with just about every change in the sport over the better part of the last half decade or so, once again the fans are the ones who wind up with the short end of the stick.

Clemson Georgia Series Being Cancelled Only Hurts Fans

These programs have a whole lot of history, and though it is largely dominated over history by Georgia, both fanbases love when these two programs get on the same field and go to battle. Tied together by roughly a 90 minute drive and two fanbases that share a whole lot of real estate in the South.

Seeing them get together is good for the sport, but like so many other things that have gone away as a result of the changing of the times, marquee non-conference games appear to be headed in a similar direction.

Even with two coaches who are very much members of the old guard in Kirby Smart and Dabo Swinney, it seems change is inevitable in this sport and all programs are going to do what they feel is best for them.

It's just unfortunate that the fans are the ones being asked to grit their teeth and accept less while they continue to pay more for just about everything from ticket prices to parking to concessions and not to mention being asked for NIL contributions as well.

Perhaps we can reach a point in this sport eventually when things become a little bit less chaotic and every off the field headline does not seem to be negative, but right now it does not seem like that's the direction we are headed.
