The Georgia Bulldogs have made some changes.
The Georgia Bulldogs are coming off the bye, a week where historically speaking the program has been great after with the chance to rest as well as fix some of their issues.
It just so happens that this year's bye week came at the absolute perfect team coming off their worst regular season performance in years and a shocking home defeat at the hands of the Auburn Tigers for the first time in decades. While Georgia suffered from turnover issues that ultimately cost them the game, it was also the defensive performance which simply was not strong enough to win.
Defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann knew he had to get things right this week, and he talked to Glory Glory about the adjustments he and the rest of the staff have had to make.
Schumann Discusses Adversity, Defensive Issues During Bye Week
"If you have [adversity], and everybody can acknowledge what went wrong, and what we need to do to get better which is the goal every week win or lose...then you can actually make those strides," Schumann said. "When you have a moment like that you get to find out who you really are and how your connection is."
It sounds like Georgia did some deep inner reflection during the bye week and was able to find out exactly what went wrong, why it went wrong, and how to get it corrected in the future here moving forward. If Schumann's assessment is correct, it's going to be a dangerous thing for the rest of the SEC and the rest of college football.
A motivated Bulldogs program with already something to prove following an ugly showing and with an extra week off is tough to pick against, and it's the reason why Georgia is a big favorite against the Florida Gators this week.
The goals for the season go well beyond dominating Florida though, this Dawgs team wants to make a very deep run in the College Football Playoff. If they have indeed identified and corrected the issues that led to an uninspired performance against Auburn, they have as strong a chance as anyone at standing on top when all is said and done this season.
With leaders like Kirby Smart and Schumann in charge of things, the culture in this program is second to none. That culture really shines through more so in the bad moments than the good ones, and it seems fans are about to find out a whole lot about this Georgia team over the course of the next month.
