The Georgia Bulldogs have a tough stretch run ahead of them.
The Georgia Bulldogs are enjoying some time off this week after a grueling start to the season in the SEC, and they are preparing for the stretch run with some very strong opponents coming up.
Going into a bye after a loss though certainly gives the Dawgs that extra jolt of motivation to improve in areas where they may be lacking, and nobody is better than Kirby Smart when it comes to developing within the season. A loss is always going to make folks think the sky is falling, and the reality for Georgia is that things are going to be just fine.
It has certainly been more good than bad to this point of the year, so here is a grade for all three units so far at this point in the year overall.
Offense: B+
The grade here may very well have been in the A range had three turnovers not cost them the game against the Auburn Tigers. Prior to last Saturday, Gunner Stockton was playing the best football of his career and looking like he had ascended to the next level, and while this could still be the case, he is going to have to prove it again.
Running backs wise, things have been productive there no matter who is on the field dealing with many injuries, and the wide receiver room despite entering the season highly doubted has certainly stepped up.
There's room to grow here, but this has been a strong offense overall.
Defense: A-
Another case here where the grade may have been even higher prior to the Auburn game, but still, it's tough not to be satisfied with where this unit is at. Holding Alabama to under 20 points after the Crimson Tide entered that game as the highest scoring offense in the country, there have been moments of absolute brilliance from this side of the ball.
Chris Cole has been the best linebacker in the nation and the secondary has been as advertised, and if things can get right this weekend, this will continue to be one of the most feared units in the nation.
Special Teams: C+
Things have started to unravel here a bit over the past couple of weeks as Peyton Woodring has missed some kicks including a short one in Tuscaloosa not to mention sloppiness and turnover worthy moments from both return units.
In close games, special teams is often the difference maker, so the Dawgs need to sharpen up here this week ahead of the stretch run.
