The Georgia Bulldogs still have one of the best quarterbacks in the country.
The Georgia Bulldogs lost a stunner on Saturday afternoon at home to the Auburn Tigers, failing to extend the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry winning streak to 10 and losing the game at Sanford Stadium for the first time in more than 20 years.
Folks are angry and understandably so, but everything is still in front of the team and now headed into the bye week, they will have the chance to make improvements and be able to get ready for another rivalry game against the Florida Gators. One player who needs to improve more so than anyone else though was ironically the best one on the field in the win over Alabama.
Gunner Stockton would be the first to tell you his play was not good enough to win, and his three turnovers including the fumble that wound up losing the game were truly shocking. With that being said, it's not time for folks to panic on Stockton just yet, because he has proven that he can be better, and it would be a foolish bet against him doing that again.
Gunner Stockton Will Raise Level of Play Rest of Season for Georgia
With two interceptions and the fumble, it was one of the worst games Stockton has played in his entire career for the Bulldogs, but it ironically came right after arguably what was the best two games of his career. Stockton still leads the conference in completion percentage and quarterback rating during what has overall been a brilliant campaign from the veteran, and while Saturday was unacceptable, he has proven capable of cleaning it up.
Nobody wants to win more than Stockton does, and there is not a better quarterback on this roster to help Georgia do just that than him. Kirby Smart would not deal him away for anyone else, and they are going to find a way through this latest challenge as a team.
If anyone can figure it out and find a way to get back to the way he was playing, it's Stockton. With a bye week coming at the perfect time for this team, him and the offense are going to get right back to work and preparing for the Gators here in two weeks.
Don't give up on Stockton, because he is not going to give up on this team, and he is going to find a way to get back to his high level of play.
