The Georgia Bulldogs are hungry to get better.

The Georgia Bulldogs are going to look to get things right during this bye week with the chance to rest up, get healthy, and both physically and mentally recovery from the grind that has been the first seven weeks of the season.

Things did not go the way anyone wanted to against the Auburn Tigers, and as a result, the Dawgs have a loss next to their name ahead of another rivalry showdown against the Florida Gators. Kirby Smart is as good as anyone at getting his team to develop during the year, and it's clear he will have to do that once again for this unit to accomplish its goals.

With that being said, there are specific things he and the coaching staff will be working on, and he revealed the most significant one on Tuesday and said why it needs to improve.

Kirby Smart Says Georgia Needs to Tackle Better

"One of the glaring things to us is we want to tackle better," Smart said via UGA Sports. "We’re higher in missed tackles than we’ve been in years past. That’s a big target area for us. We think missed tackles are up as a whole across college football, so we’re not immune to that. We’re part of that problem, but how do we do it better than they do it? That’s really what we’re trying to do this week. How can we get better incrementally and gain inches? When the margins are tighter, the inches are everywhere."

Generally speaking, it's rare for Bulldogs teams to have issues tackling as Smart and this staff harp so much on the fundamentals, but it has been clear this year that the unit is indeed struggling when it comes to wrapping guys up.

Missing tackles is the quickest way to extend drives for opposing offenses, which is in turn the quickest way to lose football games. Smart is always adapting, so it's clear to him there is a disconnect between what he is teaching and how it's not translating to the field. With the time to analyze this and break it down both in meetings watching film as well as on the practice field, chances are the problems are going to get fixed, or at the very least drastically improved.

Should the Dawgs not be able to fix the tackling problem, they are going to have a pretty hard time at being able to do what they want to do this season. When it comes to something like tackling, Smart probably loves the opportunity to be able to go back into the lab and work with his players on technique.

Chances are, he is going to figure out a way to get this team to buy in to the process and listen to him in order to get the absolute best out of them.
