The Georgia Bulldogs need someone to step up, and this former five-star might be that guy.
The Georgia Bulldogs are headed toward the season and football will be back in Athens before fans know it as fall camp continues to roll on.
As Kirby Smart and the coaching staff try to figure out various position battles and who is going to contribute in big ways to the 2026 team, one room in particular has been the focus of the fanbase really since the spring. Inexperience in the wide receiver room and a lack of proven production was one of the main narratives headed into camp, and Georgia really needs some guys to step up there.
There is potential from a number of players, they are just going to have to prove they can do it. One of those names apparently just had a very strong scrimmage over the weekend, and according to some intel from Rusty Mansell of UGA Sports On3, former five-star pass catcher Talyn Taylor had a big day and continues to step up.
Talyn Taylor Making Push to Be in Georgia Starting Lineup
"After the staff graded the tape and I talked with several people about Saturday’s scrimmage, Talyn Taylor was another name that came to the front," Mansell wrote. "He was physical as a blocker and made several catches in tight coverage, going up and getting the football."
Given the Bulldogs desperate need for more playmakers in the room to step up and show they can carry the offense, fans have to feel good about the fact that Taylor has clearly taken a step both in terms of catching the ball as well as being an unselfish blocker who helps to move the chains.
This is exactly the type of thing that gets you on the field on a Kirby Smart-coached team, and Taylor seems committed to doing whatever it takes to make that happen after it did not come together for him in 2025.
While Georgia did not necessarily need Taylor to break right out of the gate and be a huge contributor in his first year, getting five-star type production from him this year could be the difference in having a decent offense and a great one.
Gunner Stockton is ready to take the next step, but he needs help, and someone like Taylor being able to aid that would go a long way for the passing game that many have real concerns about. He is going to have to keep on proving it, but it sounds like Taylor is doing the things necessary to be a big part of the unit this season.
