The Georgia Bulldogs are going to have some tough competition, but they are currently the frontrunner.
The Georgia Bulldogs are trying to get it done on the field right now and sit at 4-0 as they prepare for Vanderbilt to come to town this week and try to spoil the party in Athens.
In all likelihood, it will be another game where the Bulldogs do not get tested and run away with it early on, but regardless of the result, much of the coaching staff is focused on trying to land prospects in the 2028 class who could change the way the program looks in the future.
The visit list so far this season has been significant, and prospects have had the chance to see some very rowdy environments in Sanford Stadium. No prospect right now is more significant though than the No. 1 running back in the nation for the class of 2028, in-state star out of Covington (Newton High School) Kevin Hartsfield.
Intel from Rivals seems to indicate that despite heavy pursuit from other schools, the Dawgs are still the team to beat for Hartsfield.
Top Programs Pursuing Hartsfield, But Georgia Still Leads
"Auburn, Miami, LSU, Ohio State, Texas and plenty of others are pursuing the No. 1 running back in the 2028 class," Chad Simmons wrote. "But Hartsfield’s recruitment continues to start with the program roughly an hour from home."
Simmons shared that Hartsfield has become close with Bulldogs legend Todd Gurley as well as spending time this past weekend with 2027 No. 1 back Kemon Spell, who with Hartsfield could form the next duo of superstar tailbacks in Athens. Securing the No. 1 back in the country for two straight years is a rare feat, but it seems like that is exactly what Georgia has a great chance to do here.
Simmons clarified that while there is going to be competition from just about every major program in the nation, the Bulldogs are the ones right now who have the best chance to keep Hartsfield at home and make sure he comes to Georgia.
At the end of the day, there is still so much time before these 2028 kids are ready to commit, let alone put pen to paper on signing day, but when it comes to the top running back in the country who is from right in the state, keeping him around is something this coaching staff is going to emphasize.
Hartsfield will likely make several more visits to Athens this fall before making an official one next spring. If the Bulldogs staff can keep on doing what they have already done, perhaps Georgia can secure an earlier commitment than usual for the 2028 superstar.
