The Georgia Bulldogs veteran quarterback is playing at an elite level at the best time possible.

The Georgia Bulldogs are headed into their biggest game of the season this week against the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa with both teams at 5-0 and looking like the two best in the conference.

Over the weekend, it was another lopsided victory for Georgia over the Vanderbilt Commodores, and despite it being close at halftime, the Dawgs put up a clinic in the second frame to pull away. The defense is understandably the story after a second half shutout, but for what felt like the first time all season, Georgia relied on its quarterback, and he delivered.

Gunner Stockton has not been widely discussed in the race for the Heisman or discussions on the best signal callers in the conference, and part of this in 2026 has been because he has so rarely been in the full game and been able to pad his stats. This week was different though, and when the Bulldogs needed their veteran quarterback at his best, he may have had the best game of his career.

Stockton Played Best Game of Career for Georgia

Stockton has been in control and in command all season long, but with so many blowouts, not only has he been pulled from games early, but there has been a whole lot of running the ball in the game script. This has prevented him from putting up some of the gaudy numbers other QBs around the nation have, but he is helping this team win games however is necessary.

And on Saturday, what was necessary was him absolutely dicing up the Commodores secondary to the tune of nearly 300 yards through the air, 25 of his 32 passes being completed as well as three touchdowns.

Accurate on both short and medium passes as well as the long ball, Stockton looks as comfortable as he's ever looked during his time in Athens, and in his second full season as the starter, he has ascended to become one of the best and most underrated QBs in the nation.

With the toughest part of the schedule still to come and hopefully a deep postseason run as well, Stockton taking the next step as a passer is a scary sight for the rest of college football and one to which could elevate the ceiling of this team.

If Stockton can keep on raising his own personal level of play, this is going to be a very tough Georgia team for anyone to beat this season.
