The Georgia Bulldogs do not know which quarterback is going to be playing.
The Georgia Bulldogs are headed into a huge rivalry game this weekend against the Florida Gators in Atlanta, and it's the first time this has been a ranked matchup since 2020.
While the Gators may not be quite the national title threat they looked like early in the year, this is absolutely a new Florida team under Jon Sumrall and the challenge is very much a real one with both teams coming out of the bye. The only issue for the Dawgs is that they do not know who is going to be starting at QB for the Gators, Aaron Philo or Tramell Jones.
After an injury to Philo, Jones was able to take his team on the road and earn a huge win over Texas, and now Sumrall has a decision to make. When asked about the differences in the challenge of facing either one though, it does not sound like Kirby Smart has much of a preference to one or the other.
Kirby Smart Says It Makes No Difference to Georgia Who Starts at QB for Florida and Both Will Be Challenging
"One beat Ole Miss handily and the other beat Texas on the road," Smart said. "They're both completely capable, good players, I've known about both of them for a long time."
Smart went on to talk about the fact that both quarterbacks are able to find success, and that the offensive system of Buster Faulkner makes it so that whoever is in there does not have to be perfect. Clearly, the Georgia coaching staff has been up at night trying to figure out how to stop this system, a unit that both Philo and Jones have been able to run effectively.
In terms of through the air, Philo is the more dangerous passer, but the legs of Jones are a major threat as well and Florida is going to be able to find some sort of offensive success regardless. Being able to limit things and keep the ball in the hands of the Bulldogs will be critical, and that begins with stopping the run.
This Gators offense has been a nightmare for teams to deal with though, and if they get it going early, Georgia will absolutely have a fight on its hands. It sounds like that fight could come regardless of who winds up playing quarterback, something the Bulldogs may not truly know until this end of this week.
Either way, it's safe to say the rivalry is back and fans are ready for the biggest edition in years.
