The Georgia Bulldogs head coach wants to see more out of this young star.

The Georgia Bulldogs are just a couple of weeks away from the start of the regular season, which means fall camp is in the final stretch and the team has largely already taken shape.

One of the strengths of the roster is perceived to be offensive line, and the hope entering camp was that it could be one of the best in all of college football. Youngsters have been the story for a lot of camp including multiple true freshmen making waves, but the rising sophomores from last season are a huge part of things.

Juan Gaston has been the subject of a ton of hype this offseason and seemingly locked down the right tackle spot, but a press conference this week from Kirby Smart indicated that the impressions inside the building may not be as high as outside the building on the young lineman.

Smart was asked about Gaston and seemed to send a very direct message regarding his stamina and ability to stay on the field.

Smart Calls Out Gaston's Stamina, Says He Needs to Block Outside Noise

"Just the camp window, I would say his stamina needs to improve," Smart said via Online Athens. "Somewhere out in you guys’ world, it became this great offseason loss of weight and this great physical specimen, but he has to be able to play more snaps. He has got to have better stamina, and I've addressed that with him. I told him, you can do one of two things. You can read what people write about you, or you can listen to what your coaches tell you and listen to the truth."

It's a pointed and direct criticism from Smart that indicates maybe Gaston has gotten caught up in the offseason hype and thought he did not have to work as hard given he already had a starting spot and looked good as a freshman.

A young player can easily get complacent, and that is what Smart is trying to prevent. While it may be a little bit of a long-term red flag that the staff is having to address stamina with Gaston, he is in the best place in the country to figure out the issue and start focusing on the daily process once again.

Gaston is going to be a huge part of this team, so perhaps he can get it figured out and this will eventually be a distant memory. Ultimately though this is not what you want to be hearing about your starting right tackle two weeks before the start of the season.
