Kansas State coach Collin Klein will lead the Wildcats for a third game Saturday against the Tulane Green Wave
Kansas State Wildcats coach Collin Klein couldn't have scripted a better start in his first year on the job.
He's off to a 2-0 start, with his team outscoring the opposition 105-10. The defense has yet to allow a touchdown. His quarterback, Avery Johnson, seems to have regained his confidence. Things have gone as close to perfect as possible.
Still, Klein admits he continues to adjust to his new position. After spending time as a position coach and a coordinator, he is facing the challenge of being the head guy in charge.
He's even sought the advice of former K-State Chris Klieman, who he replaced last December.
"I even talked to Coach Kleiman a couple days before because you're trying to weigh kick range, wind, weather, time in game, analytics, possession time, all of those things," Klein said earlier this week. "I talked to Coach Kleiman, I was like, 'Coach, how did you work through all this forever?' And he's was like, 'I'm just going tell you, you got to trust your gut.'"
Klein said that piece of advice was important. He will likely use it the rest of the season because he believes it. It could be the difference in the Wildcats continuing the early-season success or flopping once Big 12 conference begins.
K-State concludes the non-conference portion of the schedule Saturday against the Tulane Green Wave at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. After that, things get real when they play on the road the following week against the Cincinnati Bearcats.
