These three LSU Tigers standouts are under the most pressure to perform this season against the Ole Miss Rebels.
The LSU Tigers have one of the most anticipated matchups in recent school history this weekend as they travel to take on the Ole Miss Rebels.
Two games into the season, things have been mostly great for the Tigers. They started slowly against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, but they responded well and now sit at No. 7 in the country, one spot ahead of the Rebels.
Even though this is LSU's first year of this new regime, no one is going to be cutting them any slack. There will be every expectation for the Tigers to win this game, even if it was Ole Miss that was in the College Football Playoff.
Everyone on the team will be under pressure to perform, but here are a couple of names who stand out a little more:
HC Lane Kiffin
Well, this is the obvious one. Kiffin has admitted that most eyes are going to be on him this weekend. Should LSU lose this game, he is the one who will hear the most criticism.
It's going to be a pressure-packed weekend from the moment he touches down in Oxford. There are already talks of needing extra security in the area. Everyone knows what happened last time he returned to a school; the Tennessee Volunteers fans were throwing mustard bottles and golf balls at him. While that probably won't happen again, that doesn't mean it'll be easy for him.
QB Sam Leavitt
Leavitt has been incredibly fun to watch through two games. What he has been able to accomplish with his legs has helped out this offense tremendously. The problem is that the passing game hasn't been very promising.
The junior threw three first half interceptions. He ended up throwing for 344 yards and a touchdown, but those mistakes against the Bulldogs are worrisome. Ole Miss is much less likely to let the Tigers stick around through those mistakes.
LSU was able to generate a couple of big plays with Leavitt's arm to Tre Wilson and Jackson Harris, but they'll need to become more consistent in the SEC.
RT Weston Davis
Davis is one of the holdovers from last season. He was thrown into action before he was ready, clearly, and struggled a ton as a redshirt freshman. He has massive potential, but the results haven't matched.
The start of this season hasn't been much better. He has struggled to generate push in the run game and has allowed four pressures, per Pro Football Focus. He had a cleaner performance against the Clemson Tigers, but had a rough night against Louisiana Tech. LSU will need him to find some consistency on the right side, or they may look to someone else.
