Over the last 24 hours, it’s been reported that Arop Arop and Quante Berry will both enter the transfer portal when it opens on Tuesday. They will join Aston Hardaway and Curtis Givens III, whose decisions were made public earlier this week.
Arop transferred to Memphis after spending two seasons with Columbia, but he only appeared in nine games for Penny Hardaway’s team. The forward scored six points and six rebounds over those nine games, and he mainly saw action in late-game blowout scenarios.
Arop will enter the transfer portal with one season of eligibility remaining.
On Thursday, it was reported that Berry would not return for his senior season with the Tigers. The Guard joined Hardaway’s program after spending two years with Temple and averaged 6.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 30 games.
It was an up-and-down season for Berry.
After scoring 17 points in 25 minutes in the first game of the season against San Francisco, Berry saw his minutes and play fluctuate throughout the season. He played in 15 games where he played less than 20 minutes, and he played less than 10 minutes in four of those games.
In conference play, the guard averaged 6.2 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists, while shooting 27.7 percent from three-point range. The Cleveland, TN native recorded a season-high 22 points in a one-point overtime win over Tulane in the final game of the regular season, but he struggled in the first round against that same Green Wave team.
Many saw Berry as a player who could bring a lot of veteran leadership to the roster next season, but it appears he will find a new home for his final season of college basketball.
Six of the eight players with eligibility remaining have made decisions about their future, and fans are still waiting for news on Aaron Bradshaw and Simon Majok. Only two players are set to be back next season, and it will be interesting to see if Hardaway recruits any of the players who enter the transfer portal.
