From injury to National Championships, this longtime college football quarterback's resilience propelled him to the Arizona Cardinals, ready to prove himself in the NFL.
The Miami Hurricanes provided an opportunity for quarterback Carson Beck to flip the narrative surrounding him. After facing adversity on and off the field, he made the most of a second chance. In one season with the program, the 24-year-old completed 338 of 468 passes, led the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 72.2 completion percentage, throwing for 3,813 yards and 30 touchdowns, including 12 interceptions, starting in all 16 games.
Beck originally joined the Hurricanes with a broken throwing arm after suffering a UCL injury in the SEC Championship game in the 2024 season. A year later, after committing through the transfer portal, he led the program to its first National Championship appearance in over two decades.
The Jacksonville, Florida, native completed a significant personal turnaround. The 2026 NFL Draft didn’t contain highly-touted quarterback talent, but after Indiana Hoosiers’ Fernando Mendoza and Alabama Crimson Tides’ Ty Simpson were selected in the opening round, Beck was taken by the Arizona Cardinals with the 65th pick.
The former Hurricanes starter is projected to compete for a backup role, potentially a starter.
Beck was listed at 6-4 3/4, 233 pounds, 30 5/8 inch arm length, and 10-inch hands at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana. He has good size for a quarterback, can extend plays by running in certain opportunities, and is capable of releasing the ball quickly enough with a tight spiral. However, there are concerns as to how Beck will handle pressure at the NFL level.
Despite starting the season 5-0 with the Hurricanes, it took significant time before the prospect was able to throw at full strength. He can be turnover-prone, a category he led the Southeastern Conference in with the Georgia Bulldogs before moving down to South Florida.
Beck revived an extended amount of draft stock after reaching the National Championship game, despite underperforming and falling short of victory. In a final attempt to win the game, he underthrew a long pass to wide receiver Keelan Marion, who had an opening for a touchdown if caught.
The 24-year-old was formally projected to be a first-round selection after a significant 2023 season. Beck completed 302 of 412 passes, 72.4 completion percentage, throwing for 3,941 yards and 24 touchdowns, plus six interceptions, starting in 14 games. It was his first season as a full-time starter. However, Beck decided to stay in college, originally, for one more year, then declare for the NFL Draft, but the UCL injury changed everything.
After a slight delay, the highly-touted prospect will officially begin the NFL process and seek to carve out a long career.
