This past season, quarterback Carson Beck concluded his college career with a spectacular comeback story. After recovering from UCL surgery, withdrawing from last year's NFL draft, entering the transfer portal, and facing uncertainty, the Miami Hurricanes took a chance on the 23-year-old, which paid off.
He brought championship experience from his time with the Georgia Bulldogs and led the program to its first National Championship appearance in over two decades. The Third-Team All-ACC quarterback completed 338 of 467 passes, 72.4 percent, for 3,813 yards and 30 touchdowns.
However, another Hurricanes player is looking for a similar arc: running back Jordan Lyle.
The 20-year-old saw limited time on the field due to battling injuries, appearing in six games, two starts, rushing 35 times for 108 yards, and scoring a touchdown, which came against the Stanford Cardinal.
It was reported on Sunday, Jan. 25th, that Lyle would return with the Hurricanes rather than enter the transfer portal. The program did a tremendous job in retaining all running backs, including Mark Fletcher Jr., CharMar Brown, and Girard Pringle Jr.
Lyle has proven to be a productive rotation running back. He finished the 2024 season rushing 54 times for 400 yards, 7.4 yards per carry, and scored four touchdowns in 12 games.
The run game was one of the key factors in the Hurricanes' success this past season, resulting in reaching the National Championship. Of course, Fletcher Jr. was the head of the snake, finishing with 507 rushing yards throughout the College Football Playoffs, which set a new record.
Lyle was a four-star recruit coming out of St. Thomas Aquinas High School. He rushed 255 times for 2,616 yards, 10.3 yards per carry, and scored 35 touchdowns in 38 total games.
The Fort Lauderdale, Florida, native has proven to be productive when healthy. The Hurricanes can capitalize on having a fully healthy running back room. Spring training should be interesting, as Brown and Pringle Jr. proved to be rotation pieces as well.
Lyle's great talents would provide a massive boost for the Hurricanes' offense, as they revamp the roster with hopes of carving out another National Championship run. However, there's a certain level of curiosity with the offensive line next season, as James Brockermeyer, Anez Cooper, Markel Bell, and Francis Mauigoa are departing for the NFL.
That will be a situation to evaluate throughout spring training, as well as Lyle's health and progression. However, a leap in production shouldn't be ruled out, especially with consistent time on the field.
