Miami Hurricanes athletics soar amidst leadership change. A new AD faces the challenge of sustaining recent championship success and navigating NIL.
The Miami Hurricanes have experienced a resurgence among its sports programs. Within the last five years, across three different sports, they have reached three NCAA Division I Baseball Tournaments, two NCAA Basketball Tournaments, including a first-time Final Four appearance in 2023, and made the College Football Playoffs this past season, reaching the National Championship for the first time in over two decades. In the sports world, “The U” is widely known for its rich history, but it experienced a few downward years along the way.
After the latest success, the University of Miami will soon experience new leadership. It was reported on Friday, April 24, by Yahoo Sports ahead of the second and third rounds of the NFL Draft, that Athletic Director Dan Radakovich is planning to retire soon. University officials already delivered the message to school board members. As an exit agreement is being planned out, Radakovich would stick around, but in an advisor role.
The 67-year-old is a native of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, earning a bachelor’s degree in finance. Before arriving in Coral Gables, Florida, Radakovich served as an Athletic Director with Atlantic Coast Conference competitors in the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets from 2006 to 2012 and the Clemson Tigers from 2012 to 2021. In both tenures, he won several football awards, including a 2018 National Championship and multiple ACC Championships.
Along with the retirement report, a replacement frontrunner was included: Michael Yormark, twin brother of Brett Yormark, who is currently the Big 12 conference’s commissioner. He was previously with the Florida Panthers, serving as a Chief Operating Officer from 2003 to 2007, then moved to the CEO of the team role until departing from the franchise in 2014. The franchise underwent four losing seasons in seven years under Yormark’s direct leadership, reaching the playoffs once.
Radakovich is stepping down from the Miami Hurricanes as several sports are experiencing significant success. The hope would be for Yormark to achieve greater heights compared to an underwhelming resume from the National Hockey League in Broward County.

The Miami Hurricanes are currently the favorites to win the ACC Championship in football, reach back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in basketball, and are projected to reach the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament.
